Course outline

The ability to analyse vast quantities of data to extract relevant intelligence for commercial planning has become a highly sought after skill. By combining these two degrees, you’ll gain the leadership and solutions focused thinking of business and commerce backed by crucial skills in data science, helping to future proof your career. You’ll graduate with the skills to analyse, manipulate, model and interpret large data sets using digital platforms and tools, including Python, Tableau, Hadoop and SQL, as well as the knowledge to apply these specialised skills to your business major to uncover patterns and generate valuable insights into business operations and decision making. You’ll also gain work experience through internships and guest lectures, field trips, case study analysis and policy analysis and development. You’ll also have the opportunity to gain experience through placements and exchanges, where you can take on global challenges. Plus, you’ll have access to BusinessPLUS and Sciences PLUS, which offer tailored mentoring, networking and career mapping workshops for your areas of study. Applicants applying to commence in Trimester 3, 2023 also need to meet the following subject prerequisite: Any General or Applied English subject (Units 3 and 4, C). You’ll be prepared to work in not-for-profit, government and corporate organisations, as well as start-ups and entrepreneurial enterprises. Depending on your major, you could work across many fields, including as an accountant, economist, in financial planning, in advertising, event management and marketing, international and Asian business specialist, a business owner or entrepreneur, in employment relations, export, human resources management, in tourism and hospitality management, real estate and property development, sport management, in sustainable business and many more.
