Course outline

This is a two-year teacher preparation program for students who already hold a tertiary degree. The course develops knowledge, classroom skills, research capacities and professional expertise for effective teaching of students in the primary years. The primary teaching field includes one year of full-time equivalent discipline-specific curriculum and pedagogical studies across the learning areas of the primary school curriculum. Other requirements

A Blue Card is required; refer to institution. Students undertaking an Initial Teacher Education (ITE) program are required to successfully complete the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) in order to graduate and must pass the Graduate Teacher Performance Assessment (GTPA).

Additional entry requirements

Applicants must have successfully completed an approved bachelor’s degree in a discipline other than Education from a recognised tertiary institution with a cumulative GPA of 4.5 or higher. Teaching area study requirements means at least one year of full time (or equivalent) study in areas relevant to one or more learning areas of the primary school curriculum in Australian schools must be completed. Learning areas of the primary school curriculum may include: the arts; English; geography; health and physical education; history; information and communication technology (ICT); mathematics; science.
