The Bachelor of the Built Environment (Interior Architecture) course goes beyond interior design to explore new futures for existing buildings. in this course you will explore the boundaries of interior architecture through live projects that deal with real projects in real spaces with real or simulated clients. Environmental sustainability is at the heart of the course with an emphasis on the adaptive reuse of existing buildings and the exploration of sustainable and reused materials. The course is based around a design studio environment with an iterative design process where the on-going design discussion between the student and tutors leads to highly considered and innovative design outcomes. Technical subjects will develop both your digital design and fabrication skills and your knowledge of material properties and lifecycles. The work integrated learning units present an opportunity to work on global student design competitions or develop a personal project in a simulated design studio environment. You will be introduced to leading architecture and interior design practitioners through guest talks and design studio visits, allowing you to engage and form connections with the design and architectural community. The campus located at Brisbane’s South Bank provides an inspiring local architectural context and is in close proximity to Brisbane’s Cultural Precinct with buildings of national architectural significance. Successful completion of the course will provide you with the skills and knowledge required to practice as a dynamic, agile and creative interior design professional with a portfolio for consideration by architecture and design practices.
