Students can combine their interest in science with the necessary skills, knowledge and practical experiences required for teacher registration. Students receive a thorough preparation to teach in their nominated teaching areas through professional studies in education. In choosing their science specialisations, students can select from one of the broadest ranges of scientific disciplines in Australia. They develop their interdisciplinary scientific knowledge and put teaching skills into practice with placements available from the first year. Secondary teaching is a rewarding career with mathematics and science teachers increasingly in demand worldwide and throughout Australia. Majors

Applied mathematics; biochemistry and molecular biology; biomedical science; cell biology; chemistry; coastal and ocean science; earth science; ecology and conservation biology; genetics; geographical sciences; mathematics; microbiology; physics; plant science; psychology; zoology.

Other requirements

A Blue Card is required; refer to institution. Students undertaking an Initial Teacher Education (ITE) program are required to successfully complete the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) in order to graduate and must pass the Graduate Teacher Performance Assessment (GTPA).

Note: Fourth year of the program (professional year) commences in Semester 1 only and must be completed full-time.

English, Literature, English and Literature Extension or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 and 4, C); Mathematical Methods (Units 3 and 4, C); One of Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Earth and Environmental Science (Units 3 and 4, C)
