Course outline

This course produces graduates with an understanding of the processes and mechanisms of human physical activity. Students focus on how physical activity enhances human performance in occupational, sport, exercise, and leisure settings. Foundation studies include anatomy, physiology and psychology, followed by applied and advanced studies in exercise physiology, sports medicine, functional anatomy, biomechanics, health promotion, sport and exercise nutrition, and sport and exercise psychology. Students have access to world-class technical, training and testing facilities, including our new state of the art JCU Sport Performance Hub. Note

Students commencing studies mid-year will complete the course in 3.5 years.

Other requirements

Students must complete 140 hours of practical experience with sporting, professional and community bodies including institutes/academies of sport, hospitals, professional sporting clubs, defence forces, fitness centres, and other allied health services. Prior to taking professional placements, students must provide evidence of immunity to hepatitis B, MMR, varicellla, and pertussis, and current Provide First Aid and CPR certificates. A Suitability Card is required and an Australian Federal Police check may be required; refer to institution. Students must complete all professional experience placement requirements by the prescribed deadlines and maintain currency of these requirements in order to stay admitted in the course.

Prerequisites

English, Literature, English and Literature Extension or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 and 4, C); General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 and 4, C); Completion of Year 12 or attained age 18 years
