Course outline

If you’re passionate about contemporary design opportunities and designing for a sustainable future, this degree will equip you with the creative and technical skills and insights to rise to future design challenges. It will prepare you for designing future products, services, systems and experiences in a creative and critical way. Our staff are practicing designers with a wide array of industry experience and skills that help create a vibrant studio culture that will inspire and challenge you. You’ll have the opportunity to build your portfolio and cultivate important contacts and networks while working on projects for real clients through our QCALive work-integrated learning studios. In partnership with leading experts and industry, you will gain the skills to devise leading-edge strategies and solutions and gain new perspectives on sustainability while advancing your critical and strategic thinking. Other requirements

It is recommended that students have their own laptop computer by the start of first year. Information on computers, computer configuration and recommended software should be discussed with the course convenor.

Prerequisites

Applicants must meet the minimum age requirements for admission, see the QTAC website for details.

Fixed closing date

To be considered for portfolio admission, applicants must apply to QTAC, pay the portfolio fee and submit their portfolio to Griffith University by 6 September 2023. Applicants will still be able to apply after this date and be considered for ATAR/Rank admission.

Additional entry requirements

Applicants applying to commence in Trimester 3, 2023 also need to meet the following subject prerequisite: Any General or Applied English subject (Units 3 and 4, C).
From 2024 there will be two admission pathways to the Bachelor of Design. Applicants may be considered via one of the following:
Guaranteed ATAR/Rank of 70.00 or above, or via
Portfolio and interview (optional)
Admission via portfolio requires applicants to submit a portfolio and attend an interview. Portfolios are submitted directly to Griffith University via an online submission portal by the 6 September closing date. Portfolio applicants will be invited to attend an interview at Queensland College of Art, South Bank or the Gold Coast campus or via Teams from 25 – 29 September 2023. Visit griffith.edu.au/qca-portfolios for details on portfolio and interview requirements including how to pay for and submit your portfolio. Applicants should also refer to this Portfolio website for the most up to date advice and messaging. Griffith University will commence making offers on 17 November 2023, and continue to make offers to applicants via both portfolio and ATAR/Rank in subsequent offer rounds. However, applicants are encouraged to submit a portfolio and attend an interview even if confident they will meet the ATAR/Rank Guarantee. Applicants must nominate if they wish to be considered via ATAR/Rank and/or Portfolio and interview admission on their QTAC application and pay the $55 non-refundable portfolio submission fee to Griffith University.
