Home » Mater Education
Mater Education is a unique and specialised healthcare education and training provider, and Queensland’s only accredited, hospital-based, independent Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
We offer a range of courses to help you kick-start a rewarding career in healthcare, such as nursing, allied health assistance, pathology collection, individual support, health services assistance, health administration, and more.
We develop and deliver our own course material, in a world-class simulation facility and learning environment, supported by a team of expert clinicians and educators.
Our students learn contemporary best practice and have a rare opportunity to gain experience across some of Mater’s exceptional hospitals and healthcare services and our carefully chosen hospital, aged care and community care partners.
Student facilities
Our courses are purposefully integrated and delivered onsite at Mater’s South Brisbane and Townsville campuses, to give students a more comprehensive and immersive study experience.
Student facilities include:
- real hospital campus
- world-class simulation and learning facilities
- library and computer labs.
Student support services
As a Mater Education student, you will have access to a wide range of services to support you while you study, including counselling and guidance services, learning support, library services, as well as specialised support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
Scholarships
Just as people from all walks of life need care, they can also make exceptional nurses.
We encourage diversity and offer a limited number of scholarship programs for Indigenous & Refugee students to support their education.
Fee help
Payment plans are available, and eligible students will be able to apply for a VET Student Loan (VET Student Loans give rise to a HELP debt to the Commonwealth Government, which must be repaid; see website for eligibility and details) or Higher Level Skills funding (funded by the Queensland Government).

Students apply directly to Mater Education, not through QTAC.
Like our course, our application process is unique. Aspiring students submit an application online, followed by a series of tests, and finally an interview.
This process allows us to get to know applicants, and ensure our course will be a good fit for them, because there’s a lot more to being an exceptional nurse than academic results.
