Course outline

In this double degree, you’ll develop an understanding of the vital importance of human services within Australia’s legal and social systems. You’ll be prepared for work in areas such as community development, welfare services and correctional services. You’ll be empowered by a greater understanding of the principles of social justice and social inclusion as you learn about the causes and responses to crime. You’ll learn from the latest research and from experts with strong links to the health sector, government and community. You’ll receive plenty of hands-on experience in your final year of study. Within a genuine human services environment, you’ll put theory into practice in a supervised setting. This experience will enhance your skills in the workplace and get you ready to graduate job-ready. Note

Human services courses are conducted at Logan and Gold Coast, criminal justice courses are conducted at Brisbane South (Mt Gravatt) and Gold Coast, and all courses are also available online. Distance education students must be available to attend 10 days of compulsory face-to-face intensive study at the Gold Coast campus, and up to five days of additional face-to-face intensive study throughout the program.

Other requirements

In this program, you will spend 400 hours (four days per week) in the work/professional environment during trimester six of the full-time program or equivalent. Placements may be outside of the Brisbane metropolitan/Gold Coast area including Northern New South Wales and (by negotiation) interstate or overseas.
