Course outline

This degree explores techniques to engage and excite traditional gamers and broader audiences alike. Game development relies on the skills of a range of specialists to bring projects from concept to realisation. In this degree, you can choose a major that aligns with the aspect of games design that most suits your ambitions. You will also have the freedom to explore a range of other subjects, including computer programming, real-time environments, games history and culture, narrative and character development, audio and more. Choose to focus on concept art, 3D computer imagery, interactive animation and interactive player experience design, while having the freedom to explore contemporary developments in the practice of interactive game design and related disciplines. Learn the fundamentals of games design and related production disciplines before developing your focus of specialisation. In your third year, you’ll embark on a major team-based capstone project where you’ll create a production to commercial standards, which will be the cornerstone of your early-career portfolio. Important offer advice: Should you receive an offer into this program you will be required to enrol into classes* within a short timeframe. This information will be included in your Starting@Griffith email and expressed in the number of days from the day of issue of your email and is in line with the offer response date in your QTAC offer email. Please note that the number of days can vary depending on when the offer was made. This requirement applies irrespective of whether you accepted conditionally or unconditionally. If you do not enrol* into at least one class for your program by 5pm on the response day your offer will lapse. Lapsed offers are not automatically reinstated and reinstatement is subject to available places. *Enrolling into classes means that you are advising when you are attending class/es. Enrolment must be submitted.

Prerequisites

Applicants must meet the minimum age requirements for admission, see the QTAC website for details.

Fixed closing date

To be considered for portfolio admission, applicants must apply to QTAC, pay the portfolio fee and submit their portfolio to Griffith University by 4 September 2024. Applicants will still be able to apply after this date and be considered for ATAR/Rank admission.

Additional entry requirements

There are two admission pathways to the Bachelor of Games Design. Applicants may be considered via one of the following:

Guaranteed ATAR/Rank of 70.00 or above,
or via Portfolio and interview

Admission via portfolio requires applicants to submit a portfolio and attend an interview. Portfolios are submitted directly to Griffith University via an online submission portal by the 4 September 2024 closing date. A shortlist of candidates will be invited to interview following portfolio assessment. Interviews will take place at the Griffith Film School, Brisbane City (South Bank) from 23 – 27 September 2024. Visit griffith.edu.au/film-portfolios for details of portfolio and interview requirements including how to pay for and submit your portfolio. Applicants should also refer to the Portfolios website for the most up to date advice and messaging. Griffith University will commence making offers on 15 November 2024, and continue to make offers to applicants via both portfolio and ATAR/Rank in subsequent offer rounds. However, applicants are encouraged to submit a portfolio and attend an interview even if confident they will meet the ATAR/Rank Guarantee. Applicants must nominate if they wish to be considered via ATAR/Rank and/or Portfolio and interview admission on their QTAC applicationand pay the $55 non-refundable portfolio submission fee to Griffith University. Guaranteed Admission Schemes do not apply to this program.
