Course outline

Students develop skills in communication, assessment of clients, planning and implementing nursing interventions, and the management and evaluation of nursing care. In addition, the course offers scientific, biophysical and humanistic behavioural knowledge. Clinical education is an integral part of the course. Students participate in supervised clinical practice in a variety of hospitals, health agencies and community settings. Note

Applicants for mid-year may have to undertake part-time study in semester 2. This mixed-mode delivery course is offered part-time and involves a combination of distance education and approximately one week per teaching period of residential school on-campus study at Townsville or Cairns for some subjects.

Other requirements

Students must participate in prescribed professional and clinical placements at their own expense. Prior to taking clinical placements, students must provide evidence of immunity to hepatitis B, MMR, varicellla, and pertussis, and current Provide First Aid and CPR certificates. Students must complete all professional experience placement requirements by the prescribed
deadlines and maintain currency of these requirements in order to stay admitted in the course. A Suitability Card is required and an Australian Federal Police check may be required; refer to institution.

Completion of Year 12 or attained age 18 years

Additional entry requirements

To enrol in this program, English must be your primary language and you must have attended and satisfactorily completed at least six years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English. At least two years of this education must have been between grades 7 and 12. This education must have been completed in one or more of the following countries; Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States of America. If you do not meet this criteria, you will be required to provide evidence of an acceptable English Language test. For more information see English Language Proficiency.
