Course outline

Midwives play a pivotal role in safely guiding expectant women and parents through pregnancy, birth, and the weeks that follow. The Bachelor of Midwifery (Honours) will prepare students for this challenging and rewarding career. Students will undertake extensive supervised practical experience throughout the program, and during their final year, they will extend their clinical knowledge to ensure they meet the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia accreditation standards. This program is delivered in small group-based clinical teaching sessions in simulated centres, and through workshops at UQ St Lucia. The program is also integrated with hospital placements. Note

Placements in the Midwifery program are located at a number of placement providers and each semester, students will be allocated a placement within 1.5 hours of their residential address where possible. Placement hospitals include Mater hospitals, Metro North, Metro South, West Moreton Hospital and Health Service, and regional and rural health settings. Other requirements

On application, applicants will be required to demonstrate their English language proficiency. On admission, the following requirements must be met: first aid certificate (including CPR); Blue Card; medical questionnaire; police check for criminal history; current status with respect to blood-borne transmissible viruses and tuberculosis (TB); and a schedule of immunisations. Prerequisites

English, Literature, English and Literature Extension or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 and 4, C)

Additional entry requirements

To enrol in this program, applicants must have attended and satisfactorily completed at least 6 years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English. At least two years of this education must have been between grades 7 and 12. This education must have been completed in one of the following countries; Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States of America. If an applicant has not met these educational requirements, they are required to provide evidence of an acceptable English Language test. For more information see English Language Proficiency.
