Bachelor of Midwifery
The University of Queensland - St Lucia

Course outline

This program prepares students for a career in safely guiding expectant parents through pregnancy, birth and the weeks that follow. Students undertake extensive supervised practical experience throughout the program, and during their final year they extend their clinical knowledge to ensure they meet the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia National Competency Standards. This program is delivered through a clinical schools’ model; after four weeks’ intensive training, students attend small group-based teaching sessions at a clinical school, and lectures at UQ St Lucia. For more information, visit Bachelor of Midwifery at UQ.

Note

Within their home hospital group, students undertake extensive practical placements at Mater or a variety of other hospitals throughout South-East Queensland. For more information, visit nmsw.uq.edu.au/clinical-placements. Generally, students remain in the same home hospital group for the duration of their studies. Students in Mater home hospital groups attend lectures at St Lucia and small group teaching and clinical simulation at Mater South Brisbane. Students in other home hospital groups attend lectures and small group teaching at St Lucia and clinical skills simulation at a partner hospital site.
