English Subject Prerequisite

To gain entry into most courses, you’ll need to meet certain requirements in specific Year 12 subjects.

While not all courses have subject prerequisites, some may have assumed knowledge or recommended study areas. Assumed knowledge means the institution expects you to have certain subject knowledge, while recommended study suggests it would be beneficial to have covered these areas.

If you don’t have the assumed knowledge or recommended study, you can still enrol in the course but be aware that you might find some aspects of the study more challenging.

Griffith University

Most Griffith undergraduate degrees now require Essential English, which is an Applied subject, to meet the English subject prerequisite. For these programs, the admission requirements will state ‘Any General or Applied English (Units 3 & 4, C)’. Some degrees still require a General English and the admission criteria for these programs will state ‘English, English as an Additional Language, Literature or English & Literature Extension (Units 3 & 4, C)’. These programs include Education, Nursing, Laws (Honours) and some Health programs. Some programs, such as Information Technology, Acting, Music, Musical Theatre and Contemporary Australian Indigenous Art, have English as Assumed Knowledge.
