Course outline

Want to start a career in education? Do you enjoy working with young children in their learning journeys? This certificate provides an introduction to education and the professional work of early childhood educators.

In this program you will develop foundational skills and knowledge for teaching in early education settings. You’ll learn about child development, play-based learning, fostering creative expression through the arts, early years care and age-appropriate teaching, and improve your own literacy and numeracy skills and knowledge. Note

Students will complete a professional experience placement for five consecutive days in a childcare setting. Students must have a valid Suitability Card (Blue Card) before commencing supervised professional experience; refer to institution. On successful completion of the Undergraduate Certificate in Education (Early Childhood), and subject to meeting all other entry criteria, you may receive up to 48 units of credit towards UniSC – University of the Sunshine Coast’s Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) program.

English, Literature, English and Literature Extension or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 and 4, C); Completion of Year 12 or attained age 17 years
