Course outline

This course prepares midwives to meet current and future requirements of contemporary midwifery practice. The program is designed according to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia’s Midwife Standards for Practice (2018). Graduates possess a range of skills to work autonomously and, where appropriate, with other members of the inter-professional team in a variety of maternity settings or models of care. Note

Residential schools are conducted in year 1 (Trimester 1 and 2) and year 2 (Trimester 1 and 2) at UniSQ Ipswich, Queensland and in Launceston, Tasmania.
Tasmanian residential schools and professional placement is only available to Tasmanian Students.
Attendance at each residential school is compulsory. Residential schools are conducted in the
first week of Trimester, and again mid-year, and cover the practice experience that students are enrolled in during that year.

Blue Card/WWC Card; NDIS Workers Screening Card, Australian Federal Police Certificate; hepatitis B immunisation; measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis (whooping cough), influenza, Covid and TB immunisation; CPR certificate; mask-fit testing, Queensland Health student orientation requirements and occupational health and safety certificates; clinical placement student declaration.
Note: Students may not be allocated a placement if any of the above documents are not current.

Additional entry requirements

Applicants must nominate on their QTAC application three clinical placement location preferences from the following list in order of preference: Queensland: Brisbane, Cairns, Charleville, Dalby, Gold Coast (must be Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service staff to be placed in this location), Goondiwindi, Ipswich, Kingaroy, Redcliffe, Roma, Stanthorpe, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Warwick.
Tasmania (must be resident of Tasmania and have minimum 6 months post-graduate nursing experience): Burnie, Hobart, Launceston.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in nursing with current Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) nursing registration.

You must be able to declare English as your primary language. If you are unable to meet this requirement, you are required to submit a formal English Language test result that meets the NMBA’s minimal requirements prior to program entry. For more information visit English Language Proficiency.
