In this dual degree, students gain a teaching qualification underpinned by strong disciplinary knowledge in their selected teaching areas. The business management component provides content knowledge to teach business and economics while the secondary education component provides the skills, knowledge and practical experience required for teacher registration and employment. This course prepares students for the challenges of secondary school teaching through on-campus lectures, tutorials and workshops integrated with practical experience in schools. Students undertaking an Initial Teacher Education (ITE) program are required to successfully complete the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) in order to graduate, and must pass the Graduate Teacher Performance Assessment (GTPA).

Graduates are eligible to apply for registration with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT), as well as other authorities, to teach in schools around Australia, and some worldwide. Once registered, graduates can work as a secondary school teacher in state or independent schools in Queensland, interstate or overseas, or undertake further study to qualify as a principal, mentor, curriculum adviser, or a guidance or career officer or head of department. Other career opportunities outside schooling include trainer for industry or business where knowledge of teaching skills and processes is in demand.
