Bachelor of Education (Secondary)/Bachelor of Exercise Science
Australian Catholic University - Brisbane

Course outline

Combine secondary education and exercise science to share your passion for health and fitness with the next generation. Learn from world leading experts how to be an effective classroom teacher while building your knowledge of how the human body works, from a psychological, anatomical, physiological, motor control and biomechanical perspective, with a focus on the role of exercise in health, wellbeing and performance. Expand your skills over time, from observing your mentor teacher, to co-teaching, through to planning for and teaching multiple classes a day. You can also choose to study another specialisation from our arts disciplines as part of this double degree. Other requirements

Students must complete 80 days of mandated, supervised professional experience placements in educational contexts as continuous, full-time blocks to meet teacher accreditation requirements in Australia. Students must also undergo a criminal history check and obtain a Suitability Card as required by relevant jurisdictions before the first professional experience placement. All students in initial teacher education courses must meet the LANTITE test standard prior to graduation. You need to demonstrate once that you have met the standard for each test component (literacy and numeracy) before you undertake your final teaching placement. Test results are transferrable and do not expire. If you have not met the standard for either component after your first attempt, it is very important that you contact the Course Coordinator immediately to discuss your options.
