Activate your career in screen and media with this diploma qualification. Learn the specialist skills needed to be a game designer or game developer. This course is ideal for creative people seeking employment in the film, television, games industry, and screen and media industries. In this course student will gain a diverse range of skills in technical and theoretical Game Development. Students will be able to expand on their creative talents through practical exercises in Game Design, 3D Modelling, Programming, and Game Art, all while working in a collaborative, and simulated studio environment. Students will have access to industry standard equipment and the opportunity to develop close industry contacts through our leading educators.. Bachelor of Digital Design (Game Design) students will gain experience in the design and creation of games and interactive digital media. This will include the theoretical and practical skills and knowledge required to work in either a technical or creative role. Students will develop an understanding of the game design and production process from concept development and idea generation through to the production methodologies that are applied in today’s leading game studios. Students will gain a thorough understanding of game design developing skills in areas such as game design and game art. This will include key concepts such as game mechanics, artificial intelligence, 3D graphics, animation and real-time technology. These areas of expertise will be enhanced by exposure to essential knowledge required to participate and engage with the game and interactive design industry. This will include areas such as teamwork, problem-solving strategies and contemporary production methodologies. Learning will be achieved through activities such as creating interactive works, engaging with the games industry and its members, reviewing both historical and contemporary creative work and literature. All students that complete the qualification will be given the opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge to the development of creative works.

Note

Applicants offered a place in the diploma who are not eligible for a subsidised enrolment will pay full fee. The degree is delivered by TAFE Queensland in partnership with the University of Canberra. VET Student Loans and payment plans may be available to eligible applicants for study in the diploma, refer to tafeqld.edu.au/study-with-us/what-it-costs/index.html for more information. The degree is a Commonwealth supported place.
