This course is perfect for people pursuing a career in the crime and justice sector. This course equips students with the advanced skills to work effectively within the crime and justice sector. Students will develop an innovative understanding of justice-related areas including legislation and legal frameworks, social justice, crime and corrections. This course has been designed in conjunction with industry practitioners from the Queensland Police Service, The Department of Justice and Attorney General, Australian Federal Police, Queensland Corrective Services, Brisbane City Council and Australian Border Force.

Applicants offered a place in this course who are not eligible for a subsidised enrolment will pay full fee. VET Student Loans and payment plans may be available to eligible applicants for study in the diploma, refer to tafeqld.edu.au/study-with-us/what-it-costs/index.html for more information.

Combined diploma/degrees

The Diploma of Justice Studies can be combined with other programs as listed below to attain the awards of Diploma of Justice Studies from TAFE Queensland and the relevant degree from the university. Students undertake initial study at TAFE Queensland and complete the degree at the relevant university. Duration, location, mode of study, semester intake, electives and specialisations may vary. All mandatory university admission and English language requirements must be met before university enrolment is finalised. For more information contact the relevant university. Note: TAFE Queensland students making transition to the degree may need to wait six months to start with the semester one university intake.

To apply for a combined diploma/degree, applicants must select the Diploma of Justice Studies for the relevant TAFE Queensland location on their application and nominate their preferred degree/university (one only). Applicants can list the stand alone diploma or the combined program but not both. Listing more than one is not needed because they have the same eligibility and ATAR/rank requirements.

You can study this course as a single qualification or choose one of the degree options below when applying and gain direct entry on successful completion of the diploma. Degree options may vary with each diploma start month.

Prerequisites

Completion of Year 12 or attained Year 12 leaving age

Assumed knowledge

English (Units 3 and 4, C) or successful completion of a Certificate IV in Justice Studies or similar level qualification or relevant work of life experience in the business or justice fields.. Successful applicants may be required to complete the Certificate IV in Justice Studies or equivalent before progressing to the diploma.
