Course outline

This course is perfect for people who are already working in early childhood education and care, and want to progress their career as an educator or service supervisor. This course will provide students with the skills and practical knowledge to design and implement early childhood programs, by understanding the emotional, physical, cognitive and social needs of young children. TAFE Queensland’s highly-experienced team of industry professionals will provide students with the support needed to succeed throughout your studies. Successful completion of this course will qualify graduates to design and implement early childhood education and care programs. Students will be equipped with the skills needed to plan, implement and evaluate programs in line with approved learning frameworks and regulatory requirements. Graduates will also have a solid foundation to continue with further study.

Applicants offered a place in this course who are not eligible for a subsidised enrolment will pay full fee. Combined diploma/degrees

The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care can be combined with other programs as listed below to attain the awards of Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care from TAFE Queensland and the relevant degree from the university. Students undertake initial study at TAFE Queensland and complete the degree at the relevant university. Duration, location, mode of study, semester intake, electives and specialisations may vary. All mandatory university admission and English language requirements must be met before university enrolment is finalised. For more information contact the relevant university. Note: TAFE Queensland students making transition to the degree may need to wait six months to start with the semester one university intake.

To apply for a combined diploma/degree, applicants must select the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care for the relevant TAFE Queensland location on their application and nominate their preferred degree/university (one only). Applicants can list the stand alone diploma or the combined program but not both. Listing more than one is not needed because they have the same eligibility and ATAR/rank requirements.

A Suitability Card may be required. Students studying this course externally may be required to undertake a workplace observation. Contact the relevant TAFE Queensland campus for more information regarding Vocational Placement requirements.

Prerequisites

Completion of Year 12 or attained Year 12 leaving age

Additional entry requirements

Successful applicants must successfully complete CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care before progressing to the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.
