Course outline

This qualification will provide students with the contemporary, industry-relevant marketing and business skills needed to forge a successful career. This course will equip students with specialised knowledge in customer research, web design, and digital marketing and communications. Students will gain practical experience developing promotional programs and business and marketing plans. In addition, students will learn how to pitch advertising concepts, identify and exploit market opportunities, and understand consumer behaviour. Students will also develop specialised knowledge in project work and workforce planning management.

Combined diploma/degrees

The Diploma of Business/Diploma of Marketing and Communication can be combined with other programs as listed below to attain the awards of Diploma of Business/Diploma of Marketing and Communication from TAFE Queensland and the relevant degree from the university. Students undertake initial study at TAFE Queensland and complete the degree at the relevant university. Duration, location, mode of study, semester intake, electives and specialisations may vary. All mandatory university admission and English language requirements must be met before university enrolment is finalised. For more information contact the relevant university. Note: TAFE Queensland students making transition to the degree may need to wait six months to start with the semester one university intake.

To apply for a combined diploma/degree, applicants must select the Diploma of Business/Diploma of Marketing and Communication for the relevant TAFE Queensland location on their application and nominate their preferred degree/university (one only). Applicants can list the stand alone diplomas or the combined program but not both. Listing more than one is not needed because they have the same eligibility and ATAR/rank requirements.

Completion of Year 12 or attained Year 12 leaving age

Additional entry requirements

Successful applicants must satisfactorily complete the following units (or equivalent) before progressing to the Diploma of Marketing and Communication: BSBCMM411 Make presentations; BSBCRT412 Articulate, present and debate ideas; BSBMKG433 Undertake marketing activities; BSBMKG435 Analyse consumer behaviour; BSBMKG439 Develop and apply knowledge of communications industry and BSBWRT411 Write complex documents or have two years equivalent full-time relevant work experience.
