Course outline

Science and the environment underpin every aspect of human civilisation and are crucial for solving current and future medical, environmental, industrial and technological problems. Management of environmental issues such as pollution, climate change, biodiversity loss and habitat destruction are critical for the future. Students will study a range of scientific units and develop a body of knowledge and set of skills in order to think critically and solve complex problems. Core units of study will have a skills-focus to help students develop field and laboratory competencies useful for research and desired by industry and government. Further study will include transdisciplinary subjects in a chosen major and minor, such as geography, sustainability, agriculture, and community engagement, in addition to underpinning biological and chemical sciences. Students will also have the option to undertake a work placement as part of the course, allowing them to network professionally whilst studying. For more course information, visit Bachelor of Science and Environment.

Note

Students studying online will be required to attend compulsory residential schools for some units.

Majors

Chemistry; Botany and Zoology; Environmental Management; Earth and Climate Science.

Other requirements

Depending on units selected, students undertake either an industry placement or a short research project for 120 hours. Prior to a work placement or internship, a prospective employer may require students to undertake health or security checks. For full course requirements, visit Bachelor of Science.
