Bachelor of Rural Science
University of New England - Armidale

Course outline

As Australia’s longest-standing regional agriculture degree, this degree produces graduates at the forefront of the agricultural industry, equipped with job-ready scientific and communication skills and confidence to solve complex practical agricultural problems at farm, catchment and national levels. With its industry-recognised systems-based approach, our course produces graduates who are ready to advise, manage and lead agriculturally based enterprises towards success, locally and internationally. Students receive a sound scientific base in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics in first year with an introduction to agriculture and the world environment. In second and third years, students study more applied agricultural sciences and agricultural production systems, Students can specialise in fourth year and concentrate on the development of analytical, professional and research skills. In this year, students complete a study in problem-solving in farm systems and can specialise in areas such as agronomy, animal science and animal physiology, genetics, horticultural science, crop protection, soil management, cotton production, plant physiology, poultry production, wool science, and meat science. A range of specialist minors allow students to extend their expertise and develop industry relevant qualifications. Students who complete a research project in fourth year are considered for the award of honours. For external study, contact the UNE Future Students Team.
