Course outline

Fully accredited by the Council of Ambulance Authorities, this course qualifies students as a paramedic. Students learn from experienced lecturers and build their capability in emergency treatment and paramedic care through exceptional learning experiences. These experiences include practical laboratory exercises, high-fidelity simulations, case-based learning, and enhanced work-integrated learning opportunities. Students complete three clinical placements, totalling a minimum of 600 hours of clinical experience. Students can enjoy the flexibility to study this course online or on campus. Online students will complete residential schools on campus in Cairns, Rockhampton or Townsville, while on-campus students will study on campus in Rockhampton. Students develop foundation knowledge in sciences, human body systems, study and research skills and paramedic practice. Study focuses on disease processes and emergency treatment, and includes practical placements in paramedic care, enabling students to graduate work ready and highly sought after by employers. Note

This course has strict enrolment requirements. Successful applicants must accept the offer and enrol in units with CQU by the date stated on the offer letter. If you fail to do so, or if you withdraw from your units within this course, your offer will be revoked. This requirement applies irrespective of whether you accepted conditionally or unconditionally in your QTAC application.

Other requirements

Throughout this course, students are required to undertake a minimum of 15 weeks (600 hours) of compulsory off-campus clinical placements with a state or territory ambulance service. English, Literature, English and Literature Extension or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 and 4, C); Completion of Year 12 or attained age 17 years
