Join one of Australia’s leading music schools and build your skills to become an adaptable and creative musician, ready to enter professional life. Your educational experience will allow you to focus on your principal musical specialisation, as well as explorediverse musical styles and professional engagement practices (artistry, education, production and leadership). You’ll also engage in collaborative and ensemble work appropriate to your field of study, music theory, critical listening, contemporary music-making practices, and develop awareness of musical contexts. At Queensland Conservatorium, discover your artistic identity as you develop as both a person and a performer in a welcoming and supportive environment. You’ll benefit from our global connections as you learn from, and work closely with, award-winning music educators. You’ll also have opportunities to gain credit for project studies and music industry engagement and internships, so you can transition smoothly into professional life. Majors

Performance: prepares highly skilled, adaptable and creative musicians for the 21st century. Students will develop advanced skills in classical, contemporary or jazz performance.

Contemporary Creative Practices: explores a range of practices in contemporary music creation including composer, digital practitioner, songwriter, and/or sound artist

Production & Entrepreneurship: is for students who seek to envision, materialize and complete musical projects through collaborations between students from any discipline with a focus on the release of produced musical works connected with community and industry.

Community Education and Leadership: for students who are eager to engage their artistic skills and abilities to teach, facilitate, and lead participatory music-making in a variety of community and educational settings.

Other requirements

Important offer advice: Should you receive an offer into this program you will be required to enrol into classes* within a short timeframe. This information will be included in your Starting@Griffith email and expressed in the number of days from the day of issue of your email and is in line with the offer response date in your QTAC offer email. Please note that the number of days can vary depending on when the offer was made. This requirement applies irrespective of whether you accepted conditionally or unconditionally. If you do not enrol* into at least one class for your program by 5pm on the response day your offer will lapse. Lapsed offers are not automatically reinstated and reinstatement is subject to available places. *Enrolling into classes means that you are advising when you are attending class/es. Enrolment must be submitted.

Prerequisites

Applicants must meet the minimum age requirements for admission, see the QTAC website for details.; Audition/Folio (Folio is required for Composition; Creative Music Technology; Production and Songwriting only)

Fixed closing date

Applicants must apply to QTAC, pay their audition fee and submit their phase one video recorded audition or Folio and Artistic Statement to Griffith University by 29 August 2025 to be guaranteed an audition in the first audition round. Applicants who wish to apply after this date may be considered in subsequent audition and offer rounds should places still be available. Late applicants should refer to the Auditions website for information.

Additional entry requirements

Admission to this program requires applicants to upload a portfolio of materials relevant to your artistic identity (eg. performances, compositions etc.) along with an Artistic Statement as the first phase of a two-phase process. Applicants progressing to Phase two will be required to attend an audition and interview. Visit the Auditions website for up to date messaging and information on audition requirements, audition fees and submitting your audition portfolio to the Queensland Conservatorium by 29 August 2025.

Phase two auditions will take place at the Queensland Conservatorium, Brisbane City (South Bank) from 29 September – 3 October 2025. Griffith University will commence making offers on 15 November 2024, however additional auditions and offers may be considered in subsequent rounds should places still be available. Applicants must ensure they order their preferences accordingly; refer to the QTAC website. Applicants must nominate their current specialisation (eg. Instrument, genre, creative output etc.) on their QTAC application and pay the $50 non-refundable audition fee to Griffith University. You may audition on more than one specialisation as part of a single audition.

Applicants may audition as a Performer and/or Creative Practitioner in up to 2 of the following specialisations: Guitar (classical), Harp, Percussion, Piano/Keyboard (classical), Saxophone (classical), Bassoon (classical), Cello (classical), Clarinet (classical), Cornets (classical), Double bass (classical), Euphonium (classical), Flute (classical), French horn (classical), Horns (classical), Oboe (classical), Trombone (classical), Trumpet (classical), Tuba (classical), Viola (classical), Violin (classical), Voice (classical), Contemporary Bass (jazz/pop), Contemporary Drums (jazz/pop), Contemporary Guitar (jazz/pop), Contemporary Piano (jazz/pop), Contemporary Voice (jazz/pop), Clarinet (jazz), Flute (jazz), Saxophone (jazz), Trombone (jazz), Trumpet (jazz), Violin (jazz), Instruments of Indigenous, Asian or other global cultures, Composer, Songwriter, Creative Music Technology and Production.

Griffith Guaranteed Admission Schemes do not apply to this program.
