Course outline

This program provides graduates with professional knowledge, skills, and discipline expertise in two of the following teaching areas: English, geography, history, drama, Japanese, music, screen media, psychology, biology, chemistry or mathematics. This double degree provides entry to the profession for those seeking to teach Years 7-12. The program develops secondary teachers who draw on discipline and pedagogical knowledge to teach within disciplinary frameworks and integrated curriculum structures, based on inquiry and problem-solving in real-world contexts. Majors

The following teaching areas are not available at Moreton Bay: Japanese, Music, Theatre and Performance.

Other requirements

Students must complete 80 days of supervised professional experience, completed as full-time blocks as program approved. Most of this experience must be completed in a Queensland school. Students must also complete 30 hours of wider field experience. Students must undergo a criminal history check and obtain a Suitability Card before the first workplace experience; refer to institution. Students undertaking an Initial Teacher Education (ITE) program are expected to undertake and meet the benchmark in the Personal Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Educators. The Inherent Academic Requirements of a program are those fundamental skills, capabilities and knowledge that students must be able to demonstrate in order to achieve the essential learning outcomes of the program, while maintaining the academic integrity of that program. Prerequisites

English, Literature, English and Literature Extension or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 and 4, C); General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 and 4, C); Completion of Year 12 or attained age 17 years; Teaching Personal Statement

Additional entry requirements

For information regarding non-academic entry requirements, refer to QTAC website. Applicants from a non-English speaking background must attain an Academic IELTS score of at least 7.5 with a minimum of 8.0 in speaking and listening and 7.0 in all other subtests, obtained within two years prior to the commencement of the program.
