This course prepares early childhood teachers with specialised pedagogical knowledge and skills to promote the learning, development and wellbeing of young children, aged birth to 5 years, in prior-to-school early childhood education and care (ECEC) settings. As a specialist early childhood teacher, you will be prepared to teach and work in a diverse range of ECEC settings, including kindergarten/preschool, long day care, family day care and outside school hours care.
You will develop professional knowledge and skills that, in combination with work experience and personal qualities, can equip you for a variety of careers in ECEC, including policy development, engagement in education and training, design and delivery of professional learning programs, advocacy work and employment in other child and family contexts (e.g., playgroup, child and family centres). You must complete 81 days of approved professional work in an early childhood education and care setting. 15 days must be with children birth-2 years, 40 days must be in a kindergarten.
