Gain expertise in wildlife conservation or captive wildlife management. Students complete first year at the St Lucia campus, building a foundation in ecology, environmental management and animal science before choosing a major and taking courses at both St Lucia and Gatton campuses. They will build their scientific knowledge and gain technical skills relevant to animal ecological surveying and monitoring, animal and plant identification, anatomy and physiology with a focus on vertebrate animals. Students study wildlife population management, reproductive biology, breeding and genetics, animal health and nutrition, and/or conservation planning. Hands-on experiences are available through field trips, industry experiences and placements at zoos, wildlife sanctuaries, and wildlife research facilities, allow students to build industry contacts and apply their skills in real-world settings. With access to UQ’s wildlife research facilities, graduates are equipped for roles in wildlife conservation and consultancy, management and related sectors, or can pursue further research postgraduate studies or research.
