Mathematics is the foundation for tackling challenges in science, engineering, and technology. In the Bachelor of Mathematics, students develop the skills to address real world problems and open doors to diverse career opportunities. They build strong quantitative and analytical capability through studies in calculus, linear algebra, discrete mathematics, statistics and probability, modelling and numerical analysis, and programming.
Tailored study options and specialisations equip students for high demand roles in industries such as agriculture, defence, environment and resource management, finance, healthcare, technology, and consulting. Majors include Applied Mathematics, Optimisation and Operations Research, Mathematical Artificial Intelligence, Mathematical Physics, Pure Mathematics and Statistics and Mathematical Data Science.
Students may broaden their studies with minors in areas such as bioinformatics, computational science, computer science, physics, science communication, or statistics. Practical experience is available through summer research projects and internships with UQ and industry partners, helping students build networks and real world skills.
