Course outline

This course prepares students as teachers with specialist understandings for secondary school learners in two teaching and learning discipline areas. The 4 year program develops students through to demonstrated achievement of the Australian Professional Standards for Beginning Teachers as required by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership. The program meets the additional requirements of the Queensland College of Teachers for program accreditation in Queensland. Graduates will be registrable as teachers in each State and Territory of Australia. The program includes substantial professional experience embedded and connected to on-campus learning.

A Suitability Card is required; refer to institution. You must successfully complete the National Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students to graduate.

Prerequisites

English, Literature, English and Literature Extension or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 and 4, C); General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 and 4, C); Applicant must be 16; Completion of Year 12 or attained age 18 years; LANTITE Literacy status; LANTITE Numeracy status; Teaching Personal Statement

Additional entry requirements

Applicants who have failed two or more attempts of either component of the National Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students, and have not passed it in a later attempt, are not eligible for entry.
