When to start planning
This is a good time for students to think about what courses they may be interested in studying after high school, and explore their career options.
Year 10 students are encouraged to select their Year 11 and 12 subjects with their skills, interests and career goals in mind, as the subjects they study in Years 11 and 12 may be prerequisites for courses they apply for later on.
To help them choose their Senior subjects, Queensland Year 10 students can access My Path, a free online tool that also determines students' ATAR eligibility and checks whether their Senior subject selection will meet prerequisites for courses they may want to study after Year 12.
It's also a good time to start attending study expos and institution open days to find out more about courses, institutions and study pathways.
Years 11 and 12
Year 11 and 12 students are encouraged to think more seriously about what paths they want to take after they finish high school.
Queensland Year 12 students get a free copy of the QTAC Guide from their school. The Guide provides course information for over 1,700 courses, and details on the application process.
The Guide can also help students choose their course preferences.
When planning their QTAC applications, students should take note of the key dates published in the QTAC Guide and on our website.
