Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science
Southern Cross University - Lismore

Course outline

This degree gives students the required knowledge, skills and attitudes to practise as exercise and sports science professionals. It equips graduates for diverse employment opportunities across sport and health-related areas. Field experience enables students to apply theory and knowledge in practical settings to develop a professional approach to training and preparation for their careers. Students undertake placements of approximately 140 hours in clinical settings, health and fitness centres, sporting organisations or clubs, schools, academies of sport, and sport and recreation centres. Students access facilities that include fully-equipped exercise physiology, biomechanics and biochemistry laboratories, a multi-purpose sports hall and a weight training gymnasium. As an exercise scientist, graduates can expect to gain employment in sports coaching, strength training and conditioning, sport development, performance testing, health promotion, and sports or recreation facility and program management. They may also pursue postgraduate studies to become an allied health professional in areas such as clinical exercise physiology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nutrition/dietetics or to become a personal development, health and physical education teacher.
