Course outline

UQ Social Work (Honours) graduates will create a fairer, more inclusive society and champion the rights of the disadvantaged. The program combines core knowledge and skills in social work, social policy and research. Students will learn about social work and the law, human development, professional ethics, current welfare and social issues in Australian society, and a range of related social science disciplines. Note

Students can take the program part-time, but the semesters that have placement require full-time enrolment. Students commencing the program in semester 2 will take longer to complete the degree.

Other requirements

Students must obtain a Blue Card before commencing a placement course, and hold it for the duration of the program. For more information, visit Placements.

Career opportunities

Social workers in a variety of government, community and private organisations. Work with individuals, groups and communities, such as abused children, people with disabilities, people with mental health issues, victims and perpetrators of domestic violence, people with eating issues, homeless people, survivors of sexual abuse, asylum seekers, elderly people, and people with drug and alcohol issues.
