Course outline

This course will provide students with an understanding of the fundamentals of civil engineering and prepare graduates for entry into the Associate Degree of Civil Engineering (HED001). In this course students receive an introduction to engineering mathematics, 2D CAD modelling, as well as civil design and drafting. Students will learn how to use mathematical operations to solve engineering problems, develop an understanding of one of the most commonly used drafting packages in the civil design industry, and be introduced to the fundamental elements of a broad range of engineering disciplines including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and hydraulic.

If you have not passed General Mathematics or its equivalent, it is strongly recommended that you complete a 20 hour intensive Maths Workshop with TAFE Queensland prior to the commencement of this course. Applicants should be a minimum of 17 years of age and turning 18 during the first year of study with TAFE Queensland. Applicants who do not meet the age criteria are required to participate in an Interview with the TAFE Queensland Course Coordinator prior to an offer being made by QTAC.
