Course outline

Mater Education is a specialised healthcare education and training provider and Queensland’s only accredited, hospital-based, independent Registered Training Organisation (RTO). We offer a range of programs to kick-start a rewarding healthcare career in nursing, allied health assistance, pathology collection, health services assistance, health administration, and more.

Our hospital-based Diploma of Nursing is delivered in world-class simulation facilities and learning environments, supported by a team of expert clinicians and educators. Students learn contemporary theoretical knowledge, gain best-practice clinical skills, and enjoy access to Mater’s extensive statewide network of healthcare professionals and hospital facilities.

Placement
Workplace placement is an integral part of the Diploma of Nursing with opportunities offered across Mater’s statewide hospitals and healthcare services and partner facilities, including aged and community care. Placement is organised for students by Mater Education’s dedicated Placement Team.

Study locations
Learning takes place at Mater’s hospital and healthcare facilities, ensuring an immersive study experience.

Scholarships
Mater Education is proud to offer scholarship opportunities for eligible students from an Indigenous or refugee background, as well as students facing financial hardship. Scholarships are awarded on merit and are available to eligible students upon application.

Fee notes

Payment plans are available, and eligible students can apply for a Commonwealth Government VET Student Loan or Queensland Government Higher Level Skills funding.

Fee assistance
In 2024, Mater Education is an approved provider of Fee-Free TAFE for the Diploma of Nursing. This program is proudly supported and funded by the Queensland Government. Places are limited and eligibility conditions apply.

Career opportunities

Successful graduates will be eligible to apply for national registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

Study pathway
Graduates of Mater Education’s Diploma of Nursing can consider university study to become a registered nurse. An agreement between Mater Education and the Australian Catholic University (ACU) School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine allows 10 Mater Education Diploma of Nursing graduates direct entry into ACU’s Bachelor of Nursing each year. Employment pathway
Students may wish to seek employment at a Mater hospital or healthcare facility or consider the Mater Enrolled Nurse Graduate Program, only available to students who have obtained a Diploma of Nursing with Mater Education.
