This dual award course will equip students with the cutting-edge science techniques needed to work in a number of industries including clinical science, pathology pharmaceutical and forensic science. Students will start by learning how to log samples, check sample documentation, prepare samples for testing, perform scientific calculations, and maintain laboratory equipment. Students then discover how to interpret information using current scientific data analysis approaches, and record data in accordance with industry-standard protocols. Successful completion of this course will qualify graduates to work as a technical officer or laboratory technician in a range of industries including biotechnology, environmental science, mining, and food technology.

The Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques/Diploma of Laboratory Technology can be combined with other programs as listed below to attain the awards of Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques/Diploma of Laboratory Technology from TAFE Queensland and the relevant degree from the university. Students undertake initial study at TAFE Queensland and complete the degree at the relevant university. Duration, location, mode of study, semester intakes, electives and specialisations may vary. All mandatory university admission and English language requirements must be met before university enrolment is finalised. For more information contact the relevant university. Note: TAFE Queensland students making a transition to the degree may need to wait six months to start with the semester one university intake.
To apply for a combined diploma/degree, applicants must select the Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques/Diploma of Laboratory Technology for the relevant TAFE Queensland location on their application and then nominate their preferred degree/university (one only). Applicants can list the stand alone diploma or the combined program but not both. Listing more than one is not needed because they have the same eligibility and ATAR/rank requirements.
