Course outline

Students are given the opportunity to develop their creative practice as a musician and gain the theoretical knowledge needed for a successful career performing, composing, researching or teaching music. The program foregrounds practical music-making with individual lessons, a wide variety of ensembles, instrument and voice workshops and masterclasses with internationally acclaimed visiting artists. Music technology is embedded in the program and students can learn how to compose film and game music, analyse music in media, manage collaborative media projects, and develop their creative voice as a musician in today’s music industry. There are opportunities to participate in work experiences with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Musica Viva, Queensland Music Festival, 4MBS Classic FM and other industry partners. Students can also get real experience recording with professional artists and work on releases at Corella Recordings, UQ’s student-run record label.
