The Selection Rank Profile

Each Course Search entry shows a selection rank profile.

Information is published for every domestic entry undergraduate course that uses the selection rank wholly or partly, in the tertiary admission process to provide more statistical information for prospective students and applicants.

The minimum selection threshold is the minimum adjusted score (ATAR/rank) that was required for an offer of a place. Minimum selection thresholds vary from year to year, and from offer round to offer round, depending on the number and quality of applicants a course receives.

What data is used for the selection rank profile?

The data is based on the ATAR/selection rank of successful applicants who finished Year 12 in 2020, 2019 or 2018 (ie recent school leavers), who:

  • had not previously commenced a university or VET course (except as part of their secondary schooling), and
  • were offered a place wholly or partly based on their ATAR/selection rank.

The selection rank profile does not include any applicants who applied for courses where their Year 12 ATAR/selection rank was not used (e.g. applicants considered on their university study or employment and other post-secondary experience) and applicants who finished Year 12 prior to 2018. It includes data from all offer rounds for the intake for courses commencing in semester 1, 2021.

These selection ranks are divided into adjusted and unadjusted scores. These reflect whether any additional adjustment factors have been added to the entry score.

Common types of adjustment factors include:

  • equity adjustments
  • subject adjustments
  • location adjustments.

An adjusted score has been boosted by one or several adjustment factors.

An unadjusted score is a ‘raw’ score that doesn’t include any adjustment factors.

Most institutions cap the number of adjustments you can achieve across all schemes.
