Course outline

This hands-on undergraduate certificate develops students’ skills and knowledge in applying Augmented and Virtual Reality hardware and software to produce virtual screen productions. Focusing on the core technical and design considerations when working with these technologies, students will create engaging experiences that are applicable to screen technologies. They will be introduced to the craft of filmmaking through participation in practical film shoots, and gain experience working with camera, lighting, and sound. And will be introduced to fundamentals of frame composition and cinematography.

In the Undergraduate Certificate in Virtual Screen Production, students will learn the technical workflows and skills associated with virtual production, including virtual reality software, game engines, cinematography, sound recording, and the use of real time rendering engines. They will be introduced to the craft of filmmaking through practical shoots and will apply these technical and design skills to projects aligned with industry and workplace needs.

Key modules covered within the program include: virtual reality (VR) technologies, realtime rendering (game) engines, cinematography and sound recording, camera, lighting, and sound equipment, creative problem solving, critical reflection, working under supervision in a paraprofessional role, introductory screen productions and critical reflection, processes, technical workflows.

Upon completion, you will be eligible for up to 30 credit points towards the Diploma of Augmented and Virtual Reality.

Note

Duration is three months full-time.

The Undergraduate Certificate in Scripting and User Experience is an online program, supported by SAE’s Australian campus infrastructure and facilities. Students wishing to enroll in the program are advised that they will require access to the following specialised hardware and software resources to complete the projects contained within the program.

Hardware requirements: Windows PC at VR Specification And Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift, or HTC Vive Or Windows or Mac computer And Oculus Quest.

Software: Unity, Visual Studio.

Commonwealth Supported Place – $3,975.00 for eligible students (HECS-HELP available for this remaining cost, as well)

Available for full-time studies for the September 2021 intake only. The course must be completed by the 31st of December 2021.
