Course outline

Gain quantitative and problem-solving skills to increase your competitiveness in the job market across a multitude of industries, with the only university in Queensland to offer a statistics major completely via online study. Examining the fundamentals of theoretical and applied statistics, mathematical modelling and operations research, the degree incorporates practical methods for undertaking analysis, modelling and decision-making. Emphasis is placed on understanding the concepts and principles associated with dealing with data, using data sets from a range of disciplines as well as examples of statistics presented in popular media. You will develop modular coding skills aligning to the basic principles of software engineering, as well as learning more about statistical programs such as R, an integrated suite of software facilities for data manipulation, calculation and graphical display. Graduates of this degree have found work with the Queensland Office of Gaming Regulation, the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Queensland Institute of Medical Research and the Queensland Treasury.
