Course outline

Graduates of this course are eligible for endorsement as an entry-level midwife according to the internationally defined role of the midwife. Students acquire the skills and knowledge to manage normal pregnancy and childbirth and provide effective postnatal, maternal and newborn care in any maternity setting. This course is accredited with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) to the end of 2022 and currently undergoing scheduled re-accreditation for the period 2023 – 2027.

Prerequisites

English, Literature, English and Literature Extension or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 and 4, C)

Additional entry requirements

To enrol in this program, students must have attended and satisfactorily completed at least 6 years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English. At least two years of this education must have been between grades 7 and 12. This education must have been completed in one of the following countries; Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States of America. If students have not met these educational requirements, they are required to provide evidence of an acceptable English Language test. For more information see English Language Proficiency.
