Bachelor of Human Services/Bachelor of Business
Queensland University of Technology - Kelvin Grove&Gardens Point

Course outline

This course prepares you as a graduate for work in human service organisations that provide public, non-government and private services such as child and family, disability support and health services. You have the opportunity to specialise in child and family services, disability services or services for young people. The Bachelor of Business is uniquely designed to inspire you to realise your full potential, to think entrepreneurially and to ethically and sustainably shape the future of 21st century business. You will develop core business capabilities and undertake focused and authentic study in your chosen business discipline, engaging with the real world of business to ignite your professional career. This course has a strong focus on contemporary social issues, so you develop skills in casework and case management, social policy processes, group and team practice skills, advanced communication, community work, and understanding families and relationships. You complete 550 hours of human services practical placement as part of this course, gaining the hands-on experience needed to build a successful career. During the final-year placement, you further develop your assessment and intervention skills and your own practice framework. In an age of competitive tendering, outsourcing and consumer choice, a double degree in human services and business gives you the knowledge and skills you need to work effectively across public and private spheres to progress to management positions in human service organisations. Upon graduation, you have the opportunity to work in aid, development, not-for-profit and human rights agencies in Australia and internationally.
