Course outline

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) prepares students for a diverse career as a professional engineering. Students have a choice of majors in traditional engineering disciplines as well as dual major options that will prepare them for emerging specialist fields of engineering including civil and humanitarian engineering, electrical and data analytics, and electrical and information processing. This course develops students’ problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills and incorporates project-based learning so they can graduate work ready. The first year of study allows students to experience engineering projects from different disciplines which will assist them in deciding which engineering discipline and course major they wish to pursue. All units in this course are offered in online mode. Some units will have a compulsory residential schools for students who study online. These residential schools give students an opportunity to develop and demonstrate practical skills. The Engineers Australia accreditation guidelines recommend minimum of 40 days of on-campus experience for a professional engineering course offered in distance mode.

Other requirements

Students are required to complete 480 hours (including a minimum of 240 hours of industry experience) of Engineering Professional Practice prior to graduation. Once students have completed the professional practice requirements, they must provide evidence of how they have attained the professional engineering practice exposure required by Engineers Australia.
