At the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) our students are our number one priority. When you study with us you receive the one on one support we are famous for – no matter if you study on campus or via distance education. We’re driven by personal support, understanding and respect for each and every one of our students’ goals. That’s why we are the only university in Australia to give students a Student Relationship Officer. The SRO will be there to support you on your journey, help you through the challenging spots and celebrate your successes. Our students come from all walks and stages of life, which means that they need different things from their university. This is why we remain flexible to your needs, whatever they may be. If you decide to join us, you can study at one of our three campuses (Toowoomba, Springfield or Fraser Coast), by distance education or a combination of both.
As a USQ student you become part of a very extended family. There are more than 25,000 USQ students completing their studies throughout Australia and the world. There are people just like you studying USQ courses in over 100 different countries. Across our three Australian campuses, over 80 nationalities are represented.
Many of our programs offer a three semester intake, so you can start your degree when you’re ready. A three semester offering means you can fast-track your degree by taking on additional subjects over the summer. We realise that situations change, so if you move interstate or across the world, you can still be a USQ student and complete your qualifications. Similarly, if your family or work situation changes, you might decide to lighten your study load or increase to full-time study. You are in charge of your learning.
Toowoomba Campus
Our main campus is located on 75.6 ha of landscaped ground in Toowoomba, one of Australia’s largest inland cities, located just an hour and a half west of Brisbane. In the past 10 years Toowoomba has twice been voted Australia’s best city to live in.
The campus has three residential colleges, television studios, a state-of-the-art library, performing arts theatre, concert hall, sciences and engineering laboratories, modern lecture theatres, 24 hour access computer laboratories, a sports and recreation centre and many sports grounds. The Toowoomba campus also has numerous retail facilities, including a bookshop, post office, doctor, gymnasium, hairdresser, banks, and ATMs. Australia’s largest traditional Japanese garden is adjacent to the campus and a wonderful spot for lunch. USQ Toowoomba is a fun, vibrant campus with cafés and eateries, the University Club, events organised by the Student Guild, and a range of sports and social clubs.
Springfield campus
USQ’s Springfield campus opened in Semester 1, 2006. Today, there are over 1300 students enrolled on-campus in arts, business, education, engineering, law, and psychology. USQ Springfield is located in Education City, just 25 minutes drive from Brisbane and 40 minutes from the Gold Coast.
USQ Springfield’s ‘community centred – career focused’ theme provides a student-focused educational environment with the latest in program delivery and technology. Education City has facilities including a café/restaurant and bar, convenience store, and BBQ area. It is only a few minutes walk from the Orion Springfield Town Centre, shopping and entertainment precinct.
Fraser Coast campus
USQ Fraser Coast is located on one of Australia’s most beautiful pieces of coastline, at Hervey Bay in Queensland. The campus is in walking distance of shops, sporting facilities and the calm bay waters, which are perfect for diving, swimming and snorkelling. The campus caters to small class sizes and prides itself on personal face-to-face teaching and supportive distance learning. It has state-of-the-art technology and provides ready access to global information and resources. USQ Fraser Coast is located in one of Australia’s most rapidly developing and beautiful regional cities.
Distance education
Going to university is a great chance for you to develop and grow as an individual and to study a subject you love in a supportive and challenging environment. But for some it is not possible to attend a university on campus. That’s where USQ Distance Education comes in. Studying by distance education provides you with the opportunity to study regardless of location, and allows you to continue to meet other life commitments such as work, family or travel. Studying by distance means you can vary the number of courses you take each semester to further suit your circumstances. You can also choose to study part of your program at home and part on-campus at Toowoomba, Springfield or Fraser Coast.
USQ has been providing distance education for many years and is an international leader in the field. More than 75 percent of our students study via distance education, and we provide distance education for students in over 80 countries. USQ has been recognised by independent bodies for its excellence in teaching and delivery of distance education. Awards include: 2007 Carrick Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education Awards for Programs that Enhance Learning (Innovation in Curricula, Learning and Teaching Category and the Services Supporting Student Learning Category); 2007 Carrick Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning; 2006 Carrick Awards for Excellence in Australian University Teaching; 2005 Accreditation by the Distance Education Training Council; 2004 Commonwealth of Learning Award of Excellence for Institutional Achievement; 2000-2001 Joint winner of the Good Universities Guide ‘Australian University of the Year’ for developing Australia’s e-University; 1999 Voted the ‘World’s Best Dual Mode University’ by the International Council of Open and Distance Education (ICDE) – for on-campus and distance education.
