With a rich history spanning more than 125 years, a network of institutes,
more than 80 campuses and 800 programs, TAFE Queensland is the largest, most experienced provider of world class vocational education, training and adult learning in Queensland.
TAFE Queensland has an extensive range of training programs available
to suit all ages, interests and lifestyles. With more than 230,000 students enrolled annually, TAFE Queensland offers practical training to activate your career, promotion, ambition, and your future. Teachers are commercially experienced to ensure students learn work-ready skills from industry professionals. Programs have been designed in close consultation with
business and industry ensuring industry-relevant skills and knowledge for graduates. Study options include full-time, part-time, online, by distance education, or on the job through apprenticeships and traineeships.
TAFE Queensland’s associate degrees, advanced diplomas and diplomas give applicants the chance to earn up to 12 months credit or more towards a university degree.
Program Re-accreditation
All TAFE Queensland programs are progressively being re-accredited in line with the National Training Package agenda. Institutes will offer the new training packages when all accreditation and registration requirements are finalised. As a result of accreditation, students who gain entry into specific advanced diploma/diploma programs may be required to complete certificate level study in the first year. Consequently, some advanced diploma/diploma programs may not be a suitable option to increase OP/QTAC selection ranks after one year. Program titles, duration and structure may change; contact TAFE Queensland on (07) 3259 4586 for further information.
Fees
TAFE fees vary between institutes and do not include material and other program costs. The study cost for programs is designated as standard offering (SO), partially government funded (PGF) or fee-based (fee). Standard offering programs attract a government subsidy. Other resource costs apply to these. Partially government funded (PGF) programs receive a partial subsidy; however the level of subsidy can vary between programs. Students are required to contribute to the cost of their program in all offerings. The minimum tuition amounts are available from 26 September 2011 via the QTAC website or by contacting the institute directly. Fee concessions (eg Health Care Card holders) may be available. Alternate fee structures may apply to applicants who reside outside of Queensland, interstate applicants should contact institutes directly to determine relevant fees.
Programs
Diploma, advanced diploma and associate degree programs cover a range of study areas including: science and technology; arts and entertainment; business; building and construction; automotive; children’s services; community work; engineering and mining; health; primary industries; travel and tourism; information technology; and sports and recreation. Visit www.tafe.qld.gov.au .
Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process that assesses the individual’s formal and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learning outcomes for that particular unit of study. This includes skills acquired on the job or from other life experiences that do not necessarily include formal training. RPL and flexible delivery strategies mean that students can progress through a program at an accelerated rate.
Applying
It is a requirement that applicants are 17 years or over in the year of applying, or that they have completed Year 12. For competitive programs; that is full time diploma, advanced diploma, associate degree, and some certificate programs, you must lodge an application through QTAC. Applications to all other TAFE Queensland programs, such as part-time advanced diplomas and diplomas, certificates, and short courses, should be made directly to the institute offering the program.
Entry for Programs requiring Portfolio/Audition/Special Entry procedures.
Most Advanced Diploma/Diploma of Art, Music and Performing Arts
programs require portfolio, audition or music demonstration submission for
entry. These entry requirements are outlined in the course entries. The final date for lodging applications, music tapes, audition applications and portfolios to institutes, or changes of preference to QTAC, is 4 November 2011. Offers to these programs will be made in December.
Student Support Services
Counsellors assist students with their career goals and subject selection and offer support to students encountering difficulties with their studies. Applicants seeking assistance regarding a disability are encouraged to make early contact with the Disability Services Officer in the relevant institute to discuss their requirements and support needs. While every effort is made to meet individual needs, provision of specialised services and equipment cannot be guaranteed. Resource teachers provide a support service to
students encountering individual and classroom learning difficulties. They can help students with study skills, learning strategies and planning.
