Australian Catholic University (ACU) is a publicly funded university, open to all. It has six campuses based in Brisbane, Sydney (North Sydney and Strathfield), Canberra, Melbourne and Ballarat, and offers programs in five faculties throughout Australia and overseas.

Completing a degree at ACU involves much more than just lectures and essays, it involves making a difference. Students learn to think critically and be guided by social justice principles and gain the skills and inspiration to bring about change in community, professional life and industry.

ACU has more than 20,000 students and is recognised for its supportive and nurturing learning environment and close links with industry, giving students the chance to gain hands-on experience in the workplace. Situated in the northern suburb of Banyo, the Brisbane campus is 12km from Brisbane city centre. The campus is set on 40ha of beautiful natural surroundings and combines state-of-the-art facilities with a history extending back to 1863.

Travelling by bus: Brisbane City Council offers a bus service from the CBD intervals on weekdays and the trip takes about an hour. From Adelaide Street in the CBD, take route 306 to the Approach Road stop.

Travelling by train: Trains run at half-hourly intervals on weekdays and hourly intervals
on weekends from Central Station to Banyo Station, which is the nearest railway station to the campus and is on the Shorncliffe line. The train trip takes about 20 minutes from the CBD or about 10 minutes from Shorncliffe. There is also a shuttle bus which runs regularly between Toombul Station, Northgate Station and the campus.

Travelling by car: The campus is 15- 25 minutes from the CBD depending on traffic. If you are travelling via the Gateway Motorway (northbound or southbound), take the Nudgee Beach exit and turn on to Nudgee Road. If you are travelling via Sandgate Road, take the
Toombul Road exit and follow through to Nudgee Road (a left turn). There is ample parking on campus.

Courses

The Brisbane campus offers academic programs in arts, business, education, exercise science, paramedicine, physiotherapy, midwifery, nursing, psychology, social science, and theology.

Student Facilities

On-campus facilities include an art gallery, computer labs, student radio station, library, bookshop, cafeteria, pool table, chapel, free parking, tennis courts, ovals and playing fields, parents room, and a 25m pool.

Student Support Services

McAuley Student Association: The Student Association organises a variety of social, sporting and cultural events throughout the year, promotes student welfare, and represents student rights on campus.

Academic skills support: Students can get help with writing skills, time management, exam preparation, oral presentations, and much more. The Academic Skills Unit conducts workshops and individual tutorials and provides the resources that students need to be successful at university.

Indigenous support: Indigenous higher education units on each campus focus on the provision of academic, personal and cultural support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Flexible undergraduate courses are also available, allowing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to live and work in their own communities, and go to Sydney four weeks a year for face-to-face lectures.

Counselling services: Free and confidential counselling is available to students
with personal, study or work related issues. Experienced staff provide a
safe professional environment for students to discuss areas of concern. The
service also provides opportunities for students to develop general life skills to
enhance their overall learning experience.

Exchange programs

All ACU students can study for one or two semesters overseas as part of their
degree. Participating in the Study Abroad and Student Exchange programs is
an exciting and challenging way of broadening horizons in a new environment.
The University has exchange agreements with more than 60 institutions all
over the world, from Turkey, Chile and Mexico, to Germany, Sweden and the
