Australian Catholic University (ACU) is Australia’s outstanding Catholic university, one that is open to students and staff of all beliefs and backgrounds. The University is national in its reach, with more than 18,000 students and 3000 staff across six campuses (Brisbane, North Sydney, Strathfield, Canberra, Ballarat, and Melbourne), as well as off-campus activity throughout Australia and overseas.
Australian Catholic University provides programs in business, commerce,
education, environmental science, exercise science, human resource
management, information systems, liberal arts, marketing, media
communication, midwifery, music, nursing, paramedicine, philosophy,
physiotherapy, psychology, social sciences, social work, theology, and visual
arts and design. Australian Catholic University is committed to community
engagement and empowering staff and students with a strong sense of social
responsibility.
The Brisbane campus is situated in the northern suburb of Banyo, 12km from
the Brisbane city centre. The campus is set on 40ha of beautifully landscaped
grounds, combining state-of-the-art facilities with a history dating back to 1863
and is easily accessible by bus, train and car. Highly qualified staff provide a
supportive and challenging environment for students.
Travelling by bus: Brisbane City Council offers a bus service from the
CBD to Approach Road, which runs alongside the campus. Buses run at
hourly intervals on weekdays and the trip takes approximately one hour.
From Adelaide Street in the CBD, take Route 306 to the Approach Road
stop.
Travelling by train: Queensland Rail offers a service from Central Station to Banyo Station, which is on the Shorncliffe line. The train trip takes approximately 20 minutes from the CBD or 10 minutes from Shorncliffe, and the campus is a 15 minute walk from the station. There is also a shuttle bus which runs regularly between the station and the campus during semester.
Travelling by car: The campus is a 15 minute drive from the CBD. If you are travelling via the Gateway Motorway (northbound or southbound), take the Australian Catholic University exit and turn on to Nudgee Road. If you are travelling via Sandgate Road, take the Toombul Road exit and follow through to Nudgee Road (a left turn). There is free on-campus parking. The University also offers a free shuttle bus service between the Northgate Railway Station and Toombul Shopping Centre.
Courses
With more than 3900 students and 250 staff, the Brisbane campus offers courses in arts, business, marketing, human resource management, education, exercise science, midwifery, nursing, physiotherapy, psychological science, social science, social work, philosophy, and theology. The University allows program transfers between campuses.
Student Facilities
On-campus facilities include: an art gallery, computer labs, student radio station, library, bookshop, cafeteria, student building, pool tables and facilities room, religious facilities, free parking, tennis courts, ovals and playing fields, and a 25m pool and refurbished change rooms, plus parents room.
Student Support Services
McAuley Student Association - the Student Association organises a variety of social, sporting and cultural activities throughout the year, promotes student
welfare and represents student rights on campus.
Mission engagement – campus ministers provide pastoral care to students
and enhance the campus community. Student counselling – experienced
counsellors are available on campus to provide advice and support in a safe
and friendly environment. Information on childcare centres is available from
counsellors.
Student Accommodation Register – the student services team keeps a register
of houses and flats available for rent in close proximity to the campus.
Academic skills assistance – academic skills advisers support students
through individual consultations and workshops. Disability services –
disability advisers offer support to all students with disabilities and chronic
medical conditions to ensure they have an equal opportunity to achieve their
higher education goals.
Indigenous support – on-campus support teams provide education programs
and related support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students,
through the Weemala Support Unit.
Exchange programs
Australian Catholic University offers students who have successfully completed the first year of their degree the opportunity to participate in exchange programs overseas. The University runs exchange programs with more than 45 universities in 16 countries including Canada, China, England, France, Germany, and the United States of America.
