Australian Catholic University (ACU) is Australia’s outstanding Catholic university which is open to students and staff of all beliefs and backgrounds. The University is national in its reach, with more than 20,000 students and 1200 staff across six campuses (Brisbane, North Sydney, Strathfield, Canberra, Ballarat and Melbourne) as well as off-campus activity throughout Australia and overseas.
Australian Catholic University provides programs in liberal arts, commerce, education, environmental science, exercise science, human resource management, information systems, marketing, media communication, midwifery, music, nursing, paramedicine, philosophy, physiotherapy, psychology, social sciences, social work, theology, and visual arts and design. Beyond academic merit, the Australian Catholic University is committed to community engagement and encourages staff and students to contribute to their community.
The Brisbane campus is situated in the northern suburb of Banyo, just 12km from the CBD. The campus is set on 40ha of beautifully landscaped grounds to complement the grandeur of its historic buildings. It combines state-of-the-art facilities and highly qualified staff to provide a supportive and challenging environment for students. The campus is easily accessible by bus, train and car.
Travelling by bus: a Brisbane City Council bus service runs from the CBD to Approach Road, which is alongside the campus, and takes about an hour. From Adelaide Street in the CBD, take Route 306 to the Approach Road stop. Travelling by train: Queensland Rail offers a service from Central Station to Banyo Station, which is the nearest railway station to the campus and is on the Shorncliffe line. The train trip takes about 20 minutes from the CBD or about 10 minutes from Shorncliffe, with the campus about a 15 minute walk from the station. There is also a shuttle bus which runs regularly between the station and the campus during semester. Travelling by car: the campus is about 15-20 minutes from the CBD. If you are travelling via the Gateway Motorway (northbound or southbound), take the Australian Catholic University exit and turn on to Nudgee Road. If you are travelling via Sandgate Road, take the Toombul Road exit and follow through to Nudgee Road (a left turn). There is free on-campus parking. The University also offers a free shuttle bus service between the Northgate Railway Station and Toombul Shopping Centre.
Courses
With over 3400 students and 240 staff, the Brisbane campus offers courses in arts, commerce, marketing, human resource management, counselling, education, exercise science, midwifery, nursing, physiotherapy, psychological science, social science, social work, and theology.
The University allows program transfers between campuses.
Student Facilities
On-campus facilities include: art gallery; computer labs; student radio station; library; bookshop; cafeteria and coffee shop; student building with bar, pool tables and facilities room; religious facilities; free parking; tennis courts; ovals and playing fields; 25m pool and refurbished change rooms, plus landscaped barbecue area; and parents room.
Student Support Services
McAuley Student Association
The Student Association organises a variety of social, sporting and cultural activities throughout the year, promotes student welfare and represents student rights on campus.
Mission engagement – campus ministers provide pastoral care to students and enhance the campus community. Student counselling – experienced counsellors are available on campus to provide advice and support in a safe and friendly environment. Information on childcare centres is available from counsellors. Student Accommodation Register – the student services team keeps a register of houses and flats available for rent in close proximity to the campus. Academic skills assistance – academic skills advisers support students through individual consultations and workshops. Disability services – our disability advisers offer support to all students with disabilities and chronic medical conditions to ensure they have an equal opportunity to achieve their higher education goals. Indigenous support – on-campus support teams, through the Weemala Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Support Unit, provide education programs and related support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
Exchange programs
Australian Catholic University offers students who have successfully completed the first year of their degree the opportunity to participate in exchange programs overseas. The University runs exchange programs with more than 45 universities in 16 countries including Canada, China, England, France, Germany, and the United States of America.
