How To Register To Sit STAT
QTAC administers the STAT in Queensland.
The STAT is held several times per admissions period at a number of locations throughout Queensland. Please refer to the STAT dates to find a sitting that suits you.
How you register for STAT depends on whether you are intending on applying for tertiary entrance through QTAC.
- If you are intending to apply now for tertiary study through QTAC, you
simply register to sit STAT as part of your QTAC Tertiary Study
Application.
- If you have already applied to QTAC in the current admissions period, then
you can register to sit STAT by going to Current
Applicant online services.
- If you wish to sit STAT for employment purposes or for a future QTAC application please register via the online STAT Registration service.
- If you do not have a credit card and are therefore unable to use QTAC's Online Services, you can contact QTAC Information services on (07) 3858 1222.
A few days before your test, you will receive a letter confirming the time and location of your test, along with some practice test questions. If you would like to purchase the practice questions ahead of time you can use the publications order form (requires Acrobat Reader).
Changing your STAT booking
If you are unable to attend the STAT sitting you have nominated, you can change your sitting date for a fee. Please contact QTAC Information Services on 1300 GO QTAC to make the necessary arrangements.
Understanding your STAT results
Your STAT result is divided into three scores:
-
an overall test score,
-
a verbal sub-score,
-
and a quantitative sub-score.
There is no pass or fail mark. Test results are reported as a scaled score between 100 and 200 with a percentile mark in brackets afterwards. The percentile score indicates how well you performed in the test compared with other candidates.
Your overall test score on the 100 to 200 scale (not the percentile mark) is used in the assessment of your application. Some tertiary institutions will also use your verbal and quantitative sub scores to determine whether you have satisfied specific subject prerequisites. For more information, please see Understanding your STAT results.
Individual STAT sitting
If you are unable to attend one of QTAC's standard sittings, you can organise to sit an individual STAT sitting at an agreed venue. You will be liable for any other costs associated with the test (eg, room hire, supervisor time and mailing materials back to QTAC). Payment for these other costs needs to be made to the relevant venue provider. QTAC needs to have at least two weeks notice of the exam date in order to confirm the details and to mail out materials. Please contact QTAC Information Services on (07) 3858 1222 for more information about booking a special STAT sitting.
STAT sittings - overseas and interstate
QTAC does not organise interstate or overseas sittings. You can organise to sit STAT in NSW/ACT, SA, VIC or WA through the relevant interstate admissions centre. Candidates in Tasmania and Albury/Wodonga should contact VTAC. Candidates in the NT should contact The Centre for ACCESS and ESL, Charles Darwin University.
If you wish to sit for STAT overseas you must contact ACER. The Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) manages sittings in 38 centres around the world. The overseas sitting applications close on 15 October 2007 and the application forms are available at www.acer.edu.au/stat/overseas.html
You must still apply for the course of your choice through QTAC. Please note that the costs incurred by overseas testing are often quite high.
