What is a selection rank?
A selection rank or set of ranks is determined for each applicant on the basis of the applicant's qualifications. If applicants have more than one qualification they will usually be allocated more than one selection rank. Selection ranks are derived from tables or lists of conversions called schedules on a scale from 1 to 99 (99 being the highest). Specific institution rules apply to determine which rank will be used as the primary means of selection.

Please access Upgrading via Tertiary Study for further information.
How will I be assessed if I have failing tertiary study?
If your overall Grade Point Average (GPA) is less than 3.75 you should contact the institution's admissions office to obtain information about their policy on the assessment of tertiary study where the GPA is less than 3.75. If you were excluded from the course you were previously enrolled in, you can also obtain information regarding exclusion policies from the institution that you are applying to.
Some institutions may consider an application using Alternative Entry qualifications gained subsequent to the failing tertiary study. It is important to check with the institution you wish to apply to as many institutions vary in regard to their policies on consideration of tertiary study where the GPA is less than 3.75.

Please access Upgrading via Tertiary Study: Competency-based Training for further information.
How will I be assessed if I have completed my qualifications such as Senior and Tertiary studies outside of Australia?
A wide range of overseas qualifications are assessable by QTAC including Senior Secondary programs completed outside of Australia. A QTAC Selection Rank or set of ranks is determined for each QTAC applicant on the basis of their qualifications. QTAC has schedules that allow a selection rank to be allocated on the basis of a variety of qualifications.
Students who have completed qualifications overseas are advised to apply at their earliest possible convenience and to include certified, translated copies of all secondary and tertiary studies with their application.
Please note that if your first language is not English, you may be required to demonstrate your English language proficiency by sitting an English proficiency exam. Details of accepted tests are available via the information sheet English Language Proficiency. Please contact the relevant tertiary institution for information regarding subject prerequisites and how these may be satisfied.
How will I be assessed if I have completed Senior External examination subjects?
A QTAC Selection Rank or set of ranks is determined for each QTAC applicant on the basis of their assessable qualifications. Please check with the admissions office of the institution you wish to attend regarding age requirements and policies for External Senior. View more....
How will I be assessed if I have completed Year 12 interstate?
For admissions to tertiary courses, all States/Territories of Australia produce overall measures of their students' achievements in a common index that allows for comparisons to be made across States/Territories and across time. In NSW/ACT, this index is called the UAI; in Victoria, the ENTER; and in SA/NT, WA and Tasmania, the TER. These are then translated into an Interstate Transfer Index which allows students from other states to assess their eligibility for admission to QLD tertiary institutions. You can access this information via the Australian Year 12 Conversion Table.

What other entry requirements may need to be satisfied in order to be made a tertiary offer?
Subject prerequisites may also be considered when assessing an applicant's eligibility for a given course. The subject prerequisites are expressed in terms of the number of semesters of Year 11 and 12 level and the standard of achievement in the subject (4,SA). If an applicant did not complete senior studies, or did not achieve the required level, there are a number of other ways to satisfy the prerequisites, depending on the requirements of the individual institution. The English subject prerequisite is the most common. Completing a bridging course is a common way in which to satisfy subject prerequisites. You can access information on the different bridging courses via Preparatory Courses.
In addition to subject prerequisites there may be other Minimum Entry Requirements, such as Auditions or portfolios. Please check the course entry in Search for Courses or in the QTAC Guide to determine whether your preferred course requires this. View more....
