Fixed closing date: QTAC will accept applications from 1-10 February 2009. The Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program commences in mid-May. Offers to the program for undergraduate students are made in March. |

Course outline: This program equips students with the knowledge and practical skills required to practise medicine in a clinical setting. It is an integrated case-based course built around four themes: scientific basis of medicine; clinical skills; health and society; and personal and professional development. Teaching methods include case-based small group tutorials, problem-based tutorials, practical classes, clinical skills laboratory training, self-directed learning, Web-based/e-learning, interactive seminars, and lectures. Early clinical exposure is a feature, with students undertaking a pre-internship in final year.
Career opportunities: General practitioners, with further postgraduate studies, medical specialists working in private practice, the public health system, clinics and community health centres, with corporations, or medical research.
Membership: Australian Medical Council.
Registration: Medical Board of Queensland, which enables graduates to enter supervised medical practice as interns in any state or territory of Australia, and prepares them to progress to any medical specialty. Graduates must complete a 12 month internship as a resident medical officer in an approved hospital to gain full registration.
Combined degrees: The Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree cannot be combined with any other undergraduate degree program.
