Course outline: This course is for students who intend to work with clients who are limited by behavioural difficulties. These clients often have a diagnosis of development disability or learning disorder and require specialised and intensive support to learn positive ways of behaving in school, home and community settings. Students are taught functional analysis frameworks and practical techniques for working effectively with clients. A major focus is on analysing and understanding the reasons for challenging behaviours across age span and level of disability. Teaching centres on problem-solving and students receive supervised counselling experience during the completion of a practicum subject.
