Regional Preference Schemes
Some institutions offer applicants in the local area some preference in the allocation of places.
The following is a summary of institution schemes.
CQUniversity
The CQUniversity Regional Preference Scheme recognises that applicants from regional Australia may not always have the same opportunities as applicants from capital cities. All eligible QTAC applicants with a preference to CQUniversity will receive an automatic adjustment of 1 OP or 2 QTAC selection ranks. This scheme is open to those persons who currently reside outside of an Australian capital city.
Griffith University
The Griffith University Gold Coast and Logan Campus Priority Access System gives residents of these areas preference in the allocation of places available at the Gold Coast and Logan campuses. This system applies to residents of Gold Coast City, Logan City, the Scenic Rim, Redland City, Ipswich City, and the Tweed Shire who have not previously been to university and wish to gain entry to courses at the Gold Coast and Logan campuses. This scheme does not apply for entry to B Medical Science (MBBS Provisional Entry for School-leavers) or B Oral Health in Dental Science. James Cook University
James Cook University's Regional Preference Scheme assists residents of these areas to gain entry to JCU through an automatic adjustment of an applicant’s QTAC selection rank or OP. The scheme is open to people who reside in the University’s catchment area (postcodes 4737 through to 4891).
Southern Cross University
Southern Cross University's Regional Year 12 Bonus Scheme recognises that Year 12 students from their region may not always have the same opportunities as students in capital cities. SCU adds five bonus ATAR points or two OP levels for students undertaking Year 12 studies in schools and TAFE colleges within their Feeder Region. You do not have to apply for this scheme, bonuses will be applied automatically. Applicants must be current Year 12 students in our Feeder Region. Southern Cross University's Star Entry Scheme is available to Year 12 students in the university’s feeder region, which includes the Greater Gold Coast and Darling Downs areas in Queensland, and is bordered in the south by the NSW Central Coast to the NSW/SA border. Students who are recommended by their principals and satisfy specific University entry criteria can be admitted to certain courses at the University via this scheme. The University of Queensland
The UQ Ipswich Early Offer Scheme allows direct access to designated programs at the Ipswich campus for Year 12 students attending school in the Ipswich and Lockyer Valley region, as well as selected schools in the western suburbs of Brisbane. Students must meet all subject prerequisites and are considered for entry on the basis of the program’s previous year’s cut-off. Applications must be endorsed by the School Principal. University of New England
The University of New England Regional Bonus Scheme assists residents of rural or remote areas to gain entry to most UNE courses through a bonus applied to their QTAC selection rank or OP. The scheme is open to people living in areas classified as Inner Regional, Outer Regional, Remote or Very Remote under the Australian Standard Geographic Classification (ASGC). University of the Sunshine Coast
The University of Sunshine Coast's Regional Preference Scheme is open to people who currently reside in or attend a school or learning institution in the Sunshine Coast region, encompassing the regional council areas of Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast, Gympie, Somerset, Fraser Coast, and South Burnett. Eligible students receive an automatic adjustment of their OP or QTAC selection rank.
